One standout example comes out of Newark, New Jersey. According to the city’s police division, Newark has seen a remarkable 25 percent reduction in homicides year-to-date as compared to 2023, making it the safest summer on record. This milestone is part of a decade-long trend of declining homicide rates, showcasing the lasting impact of collaborative, community-driven initiatives.
We applaud the valiant work of the various public safety divisions, programs, organizations, and institutions that have come together in Newark to drive this impact year after year. At the MBK Alliance, we believe that this sort of collective, intentional effort is what it takes to achieve population-level impact in any community.
Our MBK Model Communities are committed to driving this level of impact, not only in the areas where they’ve already shown great impact but across all six of our
key life milestones, which research proves to be especially predictive of later success, and where interventions have the greatest impact for boys and young men of color.
We look forward to sharing even more dynamic outcomes from our communities with you, and hope you’re inspired to take action within your own community. Together, we can drive real change in the lives of boys and young men of color for generations to come.
In hope and faith,
